Solar Boom or Solar Hype? India’s Big Green Push Faces Ground Reality

India’s solar growth is real and impressive, but big installed capacity numbers do not tell the full story. Official reports highlight that solar capacity has crossed 162 GW and has grown many times since 2014. But capacity is only the maximum possible power. Actual electricity generation is much lower because solar panels work mainly during sunlight hours. So, while solar has become a large part of installed power capacity, it still contributes only around 9.4% of India’s actual electricity generation, while coal continues to supply more than 70% of the country’s power. This is the main “GW trap”. Adding more solar panels does not automatically mean coal is replaced. India still needs strong battery storage, better transmission lines and a modern grid to use solar power properly, especially during evening peak hours when sunlight is not available. Rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar has also created huge interest, but ground-level progress is slower than registration numbers suggest. Many people register, but fewer complete installation because of delays in approvals, net-metering, subsidy processing and vendor coordination. DISCOMs also create hurdles in some places because rooftop solar reduces their income from paying consumers. In some states, free or subsidised electricity schemes reduce public interest, as families do not want to spend ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh upfront when grid power is already cheap or free. Billing mistakes after installation have also made some consumers worried. PM-KUSUM has shown mixed results for farmers. Standalone solar pumps have worked well because they help farmers reduce diesel costs and dependence on unreliable electricity. But the plan to set up small solar plants on farmland has failed to meet targets. Many small farmers cannot get bank loans easily, and low tariffs offered by DISCOMs make these projects financially unattractive. Large solar parks face another serious problem: transmission delay. Solar plants can be built quickly, but power lines take years. Because of this, solar power from states like Rajasthan cannot always reach industrial and urban demand centres. Sometimes power is wasted because the grid cannot carry it. DISCOM payment delays and slow power purchase agreements also create financial stress for solar companies. Floating solar is promising but not easy. It costs 20% to 30% more than land solar and faces problems like changing water levels, corrosion, underwater cable damage, maintenance issues and possible impact on water bodies.

The post suggests that in the future, artificial intelligence may directly create this machine language without humans writing normal source code. This means a person may simply explain what software is needed, and AI may prepare the working program directly. If this happens, software development may become faster and easier for many people. This idea is similar to what happened many years ago with assembly language. Earlier, programmers used to write assembly language, which was close to machine language. Later, better programming languages and compilers came, and most programmers stopped using assembly for daily work. Now some experts feel that AI may bring a similar change to source code also. However, this does not mean that programmers will disappear immediately. Source code is still very important for checking mistakes, improving security, fixing problems and understanding how a program works. In countries like India, where many people work in the IT sector, this change may create both new opportunities and new challenges. FSSAI Bars Dabur India From Selling Food Products With Misleading "100%" Claims

In a major regulatory crackdown on misleading food product labeling, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a prohibition order against Dabur India Limited, barring the company from selling several food items carrying "100 per cent" claims. The food safety regulator stated that absolute claims such as "100% Pure", "100% Natural", "100% Purity Guaranteed", "100% Organic", and "100% Tender Coconut Water" violate official food safety norms as they are ambiguous, unverifiable, and likely to deceive consumers. The prohibition order covers a wide range of popular kitchen and health products sold on the company's website and retail platforms, including Dabur Honey, organic honey, cow ghee, sesame oil, virgin coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, coconut water, and coconut milk. According to the FSSAI, advertising terms like "100% Purity" on compound foods like coconut milk are explicitly not permitted under the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018. Furthermore, the regulator pointed out that products such as Dabur Himalayan Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Dabur Organic Honey were illegally displaying the 'Jaivik Bharat' logo on their packaging without holding a valid FSSAI organic endorsement certificate. The FSSAI noted that an earlier notice was issued to Dabur directing them to discontinue these claims, but the company failed to take satisfactory corrective measures. Directing Dabur India to immediately stop the sale of all non-compliant food products carrying "100%" tags, the FSSAI has ordered the FMCG major to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 15 days. In response, Dabur stated that it has received the regulatory notice and is currently reviewing the content mentioned on its website to ensure full compliance.

AP Govt Clears ₹10,120 Crore For 'Thalliki Vandanam' Scheme To Support Mothers And Students

In a major decision aimed at easing the financial burden of schooling on families, the Andhra Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has accorded administrative sanction of ₹10,120.78 crore for the implementation of the flagship 'Thalliki Vandanam' (Salutation to Mother) scheme. Under this welfare program, the state government provides financial assistance of ₹15,000 per student annually, paid directly into the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of mothers or legal guardians. A key highlight of the 'Thalliki Vandanam' scheme is its universal coverage. Unlike previous educational aid schemes that restricted benefits to only one child per household, this initiative extends financial assistance to every eligible child in a family studying from Class 1 to Class 12, including Intermediate courses. The scheme covers students enrolled across government schools, government-aided institutions, residential schools, as well as recognized private unaided schools across the state. Out of the ₹15,000 allocated per student, ₹13,000 is directly credited to the mother via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to assist with school uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and daily transport costs. The remaining ₹2,000 per student is deducted at source to be spent on improving school infrastructure, sanitation, and hygiene across educational institutions. To be eligible, families must satisfy state welfare criteria—such as holding a valid Rice Card—and students must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance. With over 67.47 lakh students and 42.70 lakh mothers set to benefit, Chief Minister Naidu stated that the program works hand-in-hand with state-wide Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs). By actively involving parents and providing direct cash transfers, the government aims to boost school enrollment, curb dropouts, and raise overall educational standards across Andhra Pradesh.
