Massive Marine Disaster! Stricken Tanker With 800,000 Barrels of Sanctioned Russian Oil Leaks Vast Slick Reaching Oman’s Coastline!

A major environmental emergency is unfolding off the Arabian Sea after a massive oil slick reached the mainland coastline of Oman. The spill originates from the Caroline Bezengi, an aging tanker carrying an estimated 800,000 to 1 million barrels of sanctioned Russian crude oil that was en route to Asia before running aground and steadily leaking toxic fuel into the surrounding waters.

The crisis began after the 24-year-old tanker suffered mysterious onboard explosions near Yemen in early June while navigating through regional conflict waters, causing flooding inside its compartments. After drifting and running aground near Al-Qibliyah Island in Oman's Hallaniyat Archipelago on June 30, the vessel was left stranded for weeks without an immediate salvage operation. Satellite imagery reviewed by experts shows the expanding slick has now reached coastal beaches in the Ras Madrakah region and threatens nearby Masirah Island.

The spill poses a catastrophic threat to one of the region's most sensitive marine sanctuaries, which was designated as a nature reserve to protect endangered Arabian Sea humpback whales, green sea turtles, and rare seabirds. Thick layers of oil reaching shallow coastal waters and shorelines threaten not only marine ecosystems for years to come, but also local fishing communities and critical coastal infrastructure.
