Elon Musk Promises Sight For Blind People Within 6 To 12 Months Through Brain Chip

In a major technological announcement that has brought hope to millions of visually impaired individuals worldwide, Elon Musk revealed that his neurotechnology company, Neuralink, plans to launch its first vision-restoring devices within the next 6 to 12 months. Named "Blindsight," the experimental brain implant aims to help people who are completely blind regain sight by bypassing damaged eyes or broken optic nerves and sending visual information directly into the brain's visual cortex.

Explaining how the groundbreaking technology works, Musk shared that the device does not rely on traditional eye surgeries or repair of natural retinas. Instead, an external camera or wearable camera will capture live video of the surroundings and convert those images into electrical signals. These signals will then be transmitted wirelessly to microscopic threads implanted in the visual cortex at the back of the brain, allowing the brain to process the electrical impulses as visual images.

Significantly, Musk emphasized that because the technology communicates directly with the brain's visual processing center, it can potentially restore sight even to individuals who have been 100 percent blind since birth. He explained that as long as the visual cortex remains intact, the brain can learn to interpret artificial signals and create perceived visual patterns regardless of past visual history.

While setting realistic expectations, Musk cautioned that the earliest version of the implant will offer low-resolution vision, giving users basic pixelated graphics similar to early video games. However, as the density of electrodes implanted on the brain increases in future versions, the clarity of sight is expected to improve dramatically, eventually opening possibilities for perception beyond normal human eyesight.
