"Amit Shah Sadan Mein Aao": Opposition MPs Protest In Parliament Over Ram Temple Donation Theft And Student Crackdown

In a major political escalation inside the Parliament House complex on Monday, August 3, 2026, opposition lawmakers belonging to the INDIA bloc staged a high-decibel demonstration against the Central Government. Led by senior leaders including Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the MPs gathered near Makar Dwar to protest over two primary issues: the alleged theft and misappropriation of public donations at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, and alleged "police excesses" against students protesting recent competitive exam paper leaks.

Holding up a large banner reading "Why Amit Shah absent from Parliament?", the protesting MPs raised slogans such as "Chhanda chor, gaddi chor" (donation thieves, seat thieves) and "Amit Shah sadan mein aao". To visually demonstrate their allegations regarding temple funds, the lawmakers set up symbolic donation boxes at the site. Several leaders dropped cash into the boxes to represent devotees' sacred offerings, before standing around them to accuse the Centre and Home Minister Amit Shah of avoiding parliamentary accountability over both the donation theft and police action against student demonstrators. The protest saw participation from prominent leaders across party lines, including Samajwadi Party MPs Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, JMM MP Mahua Maji, and RSP MP NK Premachandran.

The parliamentary protest comes amid an ongoing law enforcement investigation in Ayodhya that has confirmed actual cash theft from the temple's donation boxes (hundis). Following internal CCTV monitoring that caught counting personnel hiding cash bundles, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Ayodhya Police recovered nearly ₹80 lakh to ₹81 lakh in stolen donation money and arrested eight individuals, including counting staff. The controversy also led to the resignations of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, who stepped down taking moral responsibility for the security lapse.

While ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders strongly criticized the opposition's Parliament demonstration-accusing opposition parties of staging political skits and disrespecting religious sentiments-the INDIA bloc has vowed to maintain continuous pressure in both Houses of Parliament until the government provides a full explanation on both the Ayodhya temple donation security and the handling of student protests.
