Big Infrastructure Push: Andhra Pradesh Ranks 3rd In India For First-Quarter Development Spending

Andhra Pradesh has made a strong start to the new financial year by ranking third among all states in India for utilizing its capital expenditure budget in the first quarter (April to June). According to official financial data released by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the state spent ₹8,089 crore in the first three months, which accounts for 16.61 percent of its total ₹48,698 crore annual budget set aside for long-term development. Only Kerala and Madhya Pradesh ranked higher in percentage terms during this opening quarter.

This rapid spending speed reflects the state government’s heavy focus on building long-term assets and modern infrastructure. A major portion of these funds is being directed toward restarting and speeding up crucial mega-projects across the state. Key areas receiving continuous financial support include the Amaravati capital city project, the Polavaram multipurpose irrigation works, regional canal networks, new sea ports, greenfield airports, and highway development.

In addition to state revenue, this infrastructure momentum is getting strong support from the Central Government, which is providing long-term interest-free loans to boost capital projects across Indian states. Financial experts note that spending money early in the financial year helps keep major construction projects on track, creates local job opportunities, and builds essential roads and facilities that will support long-term economic growth across Andhra Pradesh.
