TTD Announces Free ₹10 Lakh Insurance for Tirumala Devotees

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has rolled out a first-of-its-kind insurance initiative to protect devotees visiting the hill shrine. Under this scheme partnered with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), if a devotee dies in an accident while visiting Tirumala, their family will receive ₹10 lakh, raised from the earlier payout of ₹3 lakh. In another major first for temple administration in the country, TTD will also provide ₹2 lakh in financial assistance to the family of any pilgrim who passes away due to natural causes during their visit. TTD is covering the entire insurance premium of ₹2.12 crore from its own funds, making the benefit completely free for every visitor-including those in general free darshan queues without tickets.

This protection comes just ahead of the annual Srivari Salakatla Brahmotsavams, set to take place from September 15 to 23. To manage the massive influx of pilgrims, authorities have put high-tech security plans into motion. Along with deploying over 5,600 security personnel, the hill shrine is integrating advanced surveillance with more than 3,000 AI-powered and facial-recognition cameras. These smart systems will monitor crowd density, track the movement of devotees across queue lines in real time, and help security teams prevent bottlenecks so that pilgrims have a smooth and secure darshan experience.
