India Needs Foreign Expertise For Mega ₹84,084 Crore 'Samudra Manthan' Deep-Sea Oil Mission!

In a massive step toward national energy independence, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently cleared the "Samudra Manthan" National Offshore Exploration Scheme. Backed by an enormous budget of ₹84,084 crore through Financial Year 2030–31, this project stands as India's most ambitious ocean exploration drive to date. The main goal of this mega project is to explore deep-sea ocean waters to discover hidden crude oil and natural gas reserves, cutting down the huge financial burden of foreign oil imports for the country.

However, executing such deep-water ocean exploration is an extremely complex challenge that India cannot accomplish completely alone. Extracting energy resources thousands of meters beneath the ocean bed requires specialized ultra-deepwater drillships, underwater robotics, and advanced seismic technology that only a few global companies possess. Recognizing these technical requirements, domestic oil major Oil India Limited has already joined hands with global energy giants like France's TotalEnergies to secure specialized deepwater technical assistance and expertise.

By bringing foreign technical expertise together with India's massive sovereign ocean areas, the government hopes to successfully locate undiscovered petroleum fields. If executed smoothly, this international technical partnership will help protect Indian citizens from volatile global fuel price shocks and secure long-term energy stability for the nation.
