8th Pay Commission: Pensioners Urge Centre to Include Pre-2026 Retirees in Pension Hike Rules

·

The Retired Employees Welfare Association (REWA), an organization representing central government pensioners, has asked the central government to amend the official Terms of Reference (ToR) for the upcoming 8th Central Pay Commission. The association wants the government to clearly state in the guidelines that the commission must revise both regular pensions and family pensions for all staff who retired before January 1, 2026.
REWA explained that without explicit instructions in the terms, past retirees often face confusion and risk missing out on equal pension increases and fitment benefits compared to active employees and future retirees. Emphasizing that elderly pensioners struggle with steep healthcare expenses and high everyday living costs, the association urged the Ministry of Finance to guarantee equal pension revisions for all pre-2026 retirees and family pensioners alongside working staff.
