"Germany Is Moving Toward War" - Russia's Lavrov Issues Shocking Warning

·

Germany is actively moving toward direct confrontation with Moscow, and recent diplomatic expulsions mark "the start of a real war," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned. He drew historical parallels between current German actions and the buildup before Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union in WWII. Calling Chancellor Friedrich Merz's pledge to make the Bundeswehr Europe's top military force "a declaration of war," Lavrov claimed "Nazism" was resurfacing and warned the Kremlin would draw serious conclusions.

The row erupted after German investigators found an explosive-laden drone near a Ukrainian transport plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4, matching patterns from prior Russian sabotage operations. In response, Germany ordered the closure of Russia's Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House cultural centre in Berlin, tightened border rules, and pushed for EU-wide travel curbs on Russian nationals.

Moscow dismissed the accusations, with President Putin claiming Germany planted evidence to distract from domestic crises. In retaliation, Russia shut down all Goethe-Institut cultural operations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Yekaterinburg. With Berlin-Moscow ties collapsing to their lowest point since the Cold War, European security officials warn the standoff risks triggering a direct military clash between Russia and NATO.
