Wholesale Milk Prices in Mumbai Jump by Nine Rupees to Cross Hundred Rupees Per Litre

Wholesale milk prices in Mumbai and surrounding metropolitan regions have increased by ₹9 per litre, pushing the wholesale cost from ₹93 to ₹102 per litre effective September 1. The Bombay Milk Producers Association (BMPA) announced that this revised price will remain locked and in effect for a six-month window through February 28, 2027.

The steep adjustment-one of the largest single wholesale hikes in recent years-comes in response to rising production and maintenance costs faced by dairy farmers and cattle shed operators. Association representatives noted that the cost of key cattle feed items, including green fodder, grains, chuni (grain husks), corn, and oil cakes, has jumped by up to 25 percent over recent months, alongside higher transport expenses and livestock prices.

With wholesale rates crossing the ₹100 threshold, local retail vendors, neighbourhood dairies, and doorstep suppliers are expected to pass the increase directly to consumers, likely driving retail prices higher across the city. The price revision, arriving just ahead of the festive season, is also expected to increase input costs for local sweet shops, bakeries, and tea vendors, putting secondary upward pressure on everyday dairy products like curd, paneer, and sweets.
