Oracle Prepares Fresh Round of Layoffs Affecting Up to Eight Thousand Employees Globally

Enterprise software giant Oracle is preparing to carry out a fresh round of job cuts that could impact an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 employees worldwide, with thousands of roles in India expected to be affected. The new workforce reductions come as the technology firm reallocates resources and tightens operating budgets to support massive capital investments in artificial intelligence and cloud data infrastructure.

The anticipated layoffs are projected to hit between 2,000 and 3,000 employees across Oracle's operations in India, which serves as one of the company's largest engineering and support hubs outside the United States. Company managers have reportedly been tasked with identifying positions for elimination across multiple divisions, with senior staff and higher-compensation roles facing heightened scrutiny as the organization restructures its teams.

This latest exercise follows a significant downsizing over the past fiscal year, during which Oracle reduced its global headcount by roughly 21,000 roles to around 141,000 employees. While the company has ramped up spending on AI data centers and cloud computing partnerships, the rising cost of debt financing and infrastructure expansion has placed pressure on corporate margins, prompting management to seek further operational efficiencies through staff reductions.
