Fuel and Cooking Gas Costs Rise as Oil Marketing Companies Revise Jet Fuel and Commercial LPG Rates

State-owned oil marketing companies have announced an upward revision in the prices of aviation turbine fuel and commercial liquefied petroleum gas cylinders effective from September 1. Jet fuel prices registered a sharp increase of 5.46 percent, rising by ₹6.28 per litre to reach ₹121.28 per litre for domestic airlines. This marks the second consecutive monthly price hike for aviation fuel, following an earlier increase of ₹5 per litre in August.

Alongside aviation fuel, the rates for 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders have been raised by up to ₹11.50 across major cities. Following the revision, a commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi costs ₹2,747.50 after a ₹9.50 hike, while in Mumbai the rate stands at ₹2,701. The price rose by ₹11 in cities like Hyderabad (₹2,996) and Bhubaneswar (₹2,919), and by ₹11.50 in Kolkata to reach ₹2,884. In Patna, commercial cylinder rates climbed to ₹3,029.

Domestic cooking gas consumers have been spared from the latest price increase, with rates for the standard 14.2-kg household LPG cylinder remaining unchanged. However, the higher commercial LPG prices are expected to raise input and operational expenses for hotels, restaurants, bakeries, and catering services. Similarly, because aviation turbine fuel accounts for roughly 35 to 40 percent of an airline's operational expenditure, the rising jet fuel rates could put upward pressure on domestic airfares in the coming weeks.
