Donald Trump Claims Main Iranian Oil Hub Kharg Island Is Being Blown to Smithereens

United States President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform claiming that Iran's crucial energy hub, Kharg Island, was being blown to smithereens. His social media post was accompanied by a dramatic video depicting massive explosions at an oil terminal and a tanker. However, independent media verifications indicated that the video footage was synthetically generated using artificial intelligence, and official confirmation of any real-time strike on the terminal remained absent from the White House and the United States Defense Department.

Kharg Island is considered the economic lifeline of Iran, historically handling nearly 90 percent of the country's crude oil exports due to its deep-water terminals that accommodate giant oil tankers. Any actual military attack or extensive physical damage to the facility would cut off major oil revenues and cause a catastrophic blow to the Iranian economy, which is already reeling under strict international financial sanctions and naval blockades.

Trump's social media statement followed earlier military action where United States forces launched precision strikes targeting two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, located about 660 kilometres east of Kharg Island. The American military stated that the operation was carried out because Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces were preparing to launch sea mines into the vital international waterway. In response to the Larak Island attack, Iran fired ballistic missiles at United States military bases in Jordan, marking a sharp return to direct hostilities.

Iranian officials quickly dismissed Trump's social media claims as laughable, maintaining that conditions on Kharg Island remained completely calm and that normal facility operations and maintenance work were continuing without disruption. Despite Tehran's denial, the escalating military rhetoric and exchange of attacks around the Persian Gulf have pushed global crude oil prices higher and increased security concerns over commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
