Delhi Sees a Massive Six-Fold Jump in Swine Flu Cases as H1N1 Infections Surge Sharply

The national capital has recorded a steep rise in swine flu infections, logging over 1,700 confirmed H1N1 cases so far this year. This sudden spike represents a six-fold increase compared to the same period last year, marking what public health experts consider the second-highest H1N1 wave in Delhi since the major 2009 outbreak.

Medical experts believe the real number of infections across the city is likely far higher than the official registry. Because most patients develop mild seasonal symptoms-such as low-grade fever, sore throat, cough, and body aches-many people choose to recover at home without getting tested, meaning a significant share of cases goes uncounted in formal records.

Despite the sharp rise in patient numbers, state health authorities have confirmed that no fatalities have occurred so far. The Delhi Health Minister stated that government hospitals are fully prepared, adequately staffed, and stocked with necessary isolation facilities and medicines to monitor and treat incoming patients without causing public panic.
