"SIM Card Crackdown Across India!" DoT Launches Big Verification Drive to Block Extra SIMs Exceeding 9-Card Limit!

In a massive nationwide move to curb cyber fraud, fake identity misuse, and illegal call operations, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued strict guidelines for the mandatory re-verification of existing mobile connections. Under the official rules, an individual subscriber is legally permitted to hold a maximum of 9 mobile SIM connections in total across all telecom operators and service areas in India, while for users in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and North-East circles, the permissible cap is strictly limited to 6 SIM connections.
To track down violators, the government is using its Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP), an integrated data portal that allows telecom service providers-such as Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea-to cross-check pan-India user databases in real time. Through this platform, telecom companies will flag subscribers who have exceeded the permissible limit across different operators, implementing enhanced verification protocols to block new unauthorized activations and clean up existing duplicate profiles.
