"Stock Markets That Never Sleep!" Nasdaq Begins Talks for 24-Hour Trading, Indian Investors Can Soon Buy US Shares Anytime!
In a massive revolution for global financial markets, the world's premier tech stock exchange, Nasdaq, has officially initiated discussions with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and financial regulators to enable 23-hour continuous trading, 5 days a week. Under this proposed global trading model, expected to launch in late 2026 pending regulatory clearances, the traditional closing bell will practically become history as trading runs non-stop from Sunday night through Friday evening.
The market will introduce a dedicated Night Session (9:00 PM to 4:00 AM Eastern Time) alongside its regular and pre-market day sessions. A single 1-hour industry-wide pause between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM US time will take place daily to process corporate actions, dividends, stock splits, and back-end trade settlements. To protect retail investors from extreme volatility during low-liquidity overnight hours, Nasdaq is introducing price collars and specialized order restrictions.
