"Pure Water at Every Station!" Indian Railways Launches Mega 'Tank to Tap' Overhaul Across 20,000 Locations After CAG Audit!

In a massive push to ensure clean and safe drinking water for millions of daily train passengers, Indian Railways is launching an extensive overhaul of its water supply infrastructure across the entire national network. Following a high-level review by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in response to findings from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on station water quality, the national transporter will install modern "Tank to Tap" water filtration and monitoring systems at approximately 20,000 locations, including station water coolers and passenger taps.

The Railway Ministry has ordered immediate corrective measures across all zones. The action plan mandates the replacement of aging storage tanks, scheduled cleaning schedules, and strict compliance with regular water quality testing at both water sources and platform outlet points. To prevent negligence, a centralized digital monitoring framework is being established, with periodic water quality reports to be published publicly for transparent oversight directly monitored at the Railway Board level.
