Strong 5.5 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Leh and Ladakh at 6:05 AM!

·

A moderate-to-strong earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck the high-altitude region of Leh in Ladakh early in the morning at 6:05 AM. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the seismic tremors were felt across several parts of the Union Territory, startling residents awake as buildings and structures shook across the mountain district.

Earthquakes in the Himalayan belt occur due to continuous tectonic collisions between the Indian and Eurasian plates, making regions like Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir highly active seismic zones. Local disaster management teams and district authorities immediately initiated safety checks across sensitive mountain passes, residential areas, and key civil infrastructure to assess any structural impact or potential landslides caused by the morning quake.
