Big Game-Changer for Indian Freight! Railways Announces Single Nationwide License to Lower Logistics Costs and Reduce Highway Traffic

In a massive boost for India's logistics sector, Indian Railways has announced major policy reforms that allow Container Train Operators (CTOs) to run cargo trains anywhere across the country under a single All-India license. Under the updated Model Concession Agreement approved by the Ministry of Railways, the earlier complicated system of buying separate licenses for different rail routes has been completely scrapped. Every operator can now pay a uniform, non-refundable registration fee of ₹25 crore to gain unrestricted access to the entire national railway network, significantly cutting regulatory hassles and operational costs.

The revised framework brings massive relief to long-term train operators by eliminating renewal fees. Once granted, permissions are valid for 20 years and can be extended for another 20 years without paying any extension charges. Furthermore, existing operators holding older category licenses can transition smoothly into the new nationwide license by simply paying the remaining fee difference, creating a level playing field for private freight companies.

For the common man and small businesses across India, this logistics reform brings several direct benefits.
