No More Secret Weight-Loss Ads! Government Cracks Down on Viral Slimming Injections and Influencer Scams

·

The Indian government and drug regulators at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation have launched a strict nationwide crackdown against the sneaky marketing of popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. Responding to questions in the Rajya Sabha, Health Minister Anupriya Patel revealed that authorities are aggressively tracking pharmaceutical companies, online pharmacies, and social media influencers who promote these prescription slimming injections under the trick of disguised "disease awareness" campaigns or surrogate advertisements.

Under official rules, GLP-1 injections and weight-loss medicines are strictly prescription-only drugs meant for managing Type 2 diabetes and medical obesity, and they can only be prescribed by specialist doctors like endocrinologists and internal medicine experts. The government highlighted that taking these powerful metabolic drugs without proper specialist guidance or buying them casually from unauthorized slimming clinics can cause severe health risks. To protect common people from misleading claims promising guaranteed weight loss, regulators have banned all direct, indirect, and influencer-led advertisements under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act.

State drug controllers have now been ordered to conduct surprise physical audits of pharmacy warehouses, track e-commerce portals, and crack down on illegal supply chains to ensure no one buys these injections over the counter. For everyday consumers, the message is crystal clear: real weight loss requires healthy lifestyle choices, diet control, and genuine medical advice, so you should never trust viral social media trends or buy prescription weight-loss injections without consulting a specialist doctor.
